Lana’s View: AT THE SCHOOL'S OFFICE
“Mr. Lee. I understand that I was late and that it was my responsibility and that no one is teaching the school but I really needed to go to the museum of ancient Mayan history. It gives me more information on Mayan history and I’ll get to finish up the extra-credit quiz Ms. Finidad gave us the other day.” I said trying to get Mr. Kaligaris to get me a ride to the museum of ancient Mayan history.
“Sorry, Ms. Wilcocks. It just happens we don’t have the money to rent a transportation device for a single person as yourself.” Mr. Lee said. “But I would very much like to give you a souvenir what I found outside of the museum.” It was a stick (yes I know he’s crazy).
“A stick?”
“You do know what things you can make out of sticks the ancient Mayans made arrow heads, I believe. I also believe that you can live without the field trip. Now have a good day, Ms. Wilcocks.”
I left his office. The stick didn’t. Obviously it was merely a stick. Mr. Lee didn’t even know that Mayans did not use sticks. They used rocks to make arrow heads. And talk about his “master degree”.
“Hey, Wilcocks. Thanks for making me late for Six Flags,” yelled Josh who was sitting outside of the school’s building.
“No problem. Did you know that your alarm clock is really hard to change?” I said smirking.
“You did that on purpose did you? Huh? You think that I’ll actually miss out on Six Flags. Did you, huh? Well I’m perfectly fine.” He said faking a laugh.
“Oh and I can already see that you’re fake laughing.”
“Well, I hope you’re not missing your museum much are you?” he said. I knew it.
“How did you manage to get in my room?” I asked.
“I have my many ways. And I also know how you got in my room.” I glared at him. He glared back.
“It’s your entire fault. You made me late. You set my alarm clock to 7.”
“You did too. It was all my idea. You stole it.”
“Come on Josh, everyone knows that prank.”
“Not geeks like you.”
“Ms. Wilcocks!! You left your stick!!” yelled Mr. Lee running out of the school.”
Josh started laughing.
“Sticks are very important. You must know that.” Mr. Lee said turning around. “Oh hello, Josh.”
“Hello, Mr. Lee.” Josh said still laughing.
“You know today is the perfect day to go out to China Town. And since you both missed out for the important field trip, I’ll invite you too for China Town.”
“China Town?” Josh and I said surprised.
“Yes indeed. The perfect weather and indeed the perfect time. Come you two.”
“Mr. Lee? Look China Town isn’t really my type. So I’m going to go back home.” I said.
“Oh, Ms. Wilcocks. Today is the perfect day. Besides I bet Mr. Grandier would be glad to accompany us to China Town. Would you Josh?”
“I would love to, Mr. Lee.”
“Fine then. To China Town we go.” He said.
“But…” I said, not agreeing.
“Come on!!” Josh said pushing me to Mr. Lee’s car.
Josh’s View: IN MR. LEE'S CAR, GOING TO CHINA TOWN
“So Mr. Lee, you come to China Town often?” Lana asked to our Asian principle.
“Yes I do indeed. In fact I come to China Town every day after work.”
“Why?”
“To look at the artifacts. Every day is a perfect day for China Town you know? In fact I would of love to come to China Town every single day. But, I cannot, because of my job as being your responsible principle.”
I laughed. “I’ve never been to China Town. How’s it like?”
“Oh, Mr. Grandier. It is wonderful! Many cheap stuff you can buy. Also Chinese artifacts. Very good price too.” Mr. Lee said with an Asian accent. It was very funny.
Lana took out her notebook and started writing notes. “Mr. Lee, why is there a China Town in every city?”
“Taking notes, I see. Well, I really don’t know why but I’m guessing when immigration to America first took place there were only one or two Asians. Then the populations of Asians started to increase. The people that were living in this country originally mostly were racist. So Asians usually stuck next to other Asians in fear of the people. They start making this big community of people in a city, the other people living in the city call it China Town.”
There was this strange silence afterwards until I said, “Mr. Lee, where are you taking us?”
“Why I’m taking you to China Town.” He answered confused.
“No what place in China Town?” I asked.
“Well, first since it’s only 9 in the morning and that you two are totally broke, I’m taking you to see Downtown China Town.”
“What’s there?” asked Lana.
“Hmm… well first I’m going to take you to see the old historic buildings. Afterwards, to lunch. And then we are going to go window shopping.” He was planning it out.
“What restaurant?”
“Have you seen Rush Hour 1?”
“Yea, why?” I asked.
“That restaurant that was filmed in the movie. Great food. You must try.”
“Oh we are here.” He said.
